Our story

The original wrist water bottle.

Swiggies was invented by Julie Austin and is made by HydroSport USA, a woman-owned company. It has sold over a million units in 25 countries, and it is still run by the inventor.

How it started

Invented out of necessity.

Julie Austin was running through the Texas countryside in the summer heat when she realized she had nothing to drink. She was carrying her keys and her music, but both hands were full, and there was no easy way to carry water. She passed out from dehydration on that run, and a passerby got her to the hospital.

She wanted a hands-free water bottle. Nothing like it existed. So she decided to build one.

The most natural place to carry water on a run was the wrist. Julie shaped a prototype out of clay, took it to a mold maker, and the very first version worked. Two bottles, 11 ounces of water, hands free. Freeze them overnight and they cool you down on a hot day. That first design is still the product today.

The company

Made by a woman-owned company that has done this for two decades.

Rather than sign her invention away, Julie chose to manufacture it herself and build her own network of distributors and reps. Swiggies is made for HydroSport USA, LLC, a woman-owned business based in Plano, Texas.

Why it is the original

Protected by trade dress, not just a good idea.

Julie secured a coveted trade dress for the contoured bottle design that fits on the wrist. Very few independent inventors ever manage to secure this kind of protection. Unlike a patent, trade dress lasts for as long as the design is in use.

That is why Swiggies can call itself the original wrist water bottle. Knockoffs come and go. This is the one with the history, the trade dress, and the track record behind it.
